About ten Tweelinden
Why the name ten Tweelinden?
When we purchased our farm, we discovered that it belonged to distant family member of ours who still live in Goetsenhoven. Additionally, we learnt a lot about its original use and the history of the buildings.
‘ten Tweelinden’ was still used as a company name for the farm in the 1970’s, and has since fallen into disrepair. Some research in the book ‘Oost-Brabant place names: Goetsenhoven’ by Dr. P. Kempeneers shows that this name was first used in 1390 and was written in different ways in ancient Dutch and regional dialect throughout the centuries. In Dutch the name ‘Tweelinden’ means two Linden trees, while ‘tweelingen’ means ‘twins’. At a certain time, there was confusion between those two words. The former Linden trees must have stood in the middle of the now paved street, Tiensebaan. In 2008 we replanted two new Linden trees within our courtyard, close together so that they can grow together as twins.
From dilapidated farm to b&b to ecological holiday home
As a couple with great dreams in 2004 we bought a dilapidated farm in the rural village of Goetsenhoven. With a mountain of courage, perseverance and especially with the help of many friends and family, we initially rebuilt it into a home with three guest rooms. The b&b ten Tweelinden opened in 2010 and we have been able to welcome and host many fascinating people over the years. Together with the b&b we also became parents of our two wonderful children. In order to make time for our family, we decided in 2017 to transform our b&b into one holiday house. After one year of working the transformation is finished and we take a break with renovating to enjoy together with you this wonderful place.
